Rusty and home life

Rusty is learning quickly that he's really enjoying home life. The comfy couch, the playmates, the yummy food and snacks and the on demand pets from the hoomans.

He's definitely still has lots of puppy in him left, but the potty trained bladder is great. He is not as great at giving signs that he needs to go potty, so we go at regular intervals. He has not messed in his crate since we've had him. 

When he is hyper, he can get real riled up for fun. But he can be chill and loves laying by the cooler floors or by the door or windowsills. He is the best at listening to the "lay down" command when mommy wants calming time. 

We are working on his leash manners, he loves to dig and pull. He's so ready for an adventure! He's gentle with the cat, unlike his counterpart. The cat will actually come out of hiding when he sees Rusty. 

He still things he's a lap dog, his silky smooth fur sliding into your lap to snuggle. He's learning the chair by the window allows him to people watch. 

We successfully trimmed up some unmatched ends and his paws today. Some convincing snuggling and treats were great motivation. Can practice more for comfort. 
 

Rusty's tricks

This boy LOVES treats! He sees a treat and you don't even have to ask. He'll sit. He needs some reminders at times, but he's getting there. But LOOK at those puppy eyes!
 

Rusty makes a new friend

 Rusty came to us a bit more socialized, but still as a "single" as in not necessarily amazing with other dogs. But being that he's been around a bit, thought he just needed some extra time to understand who he is as a pup and get a good assessment. 

It was time to find someone his own size and see how he did. He has done well with our small Sheltie and our cat. But he REALLY likes to play and our Sheltie just can't keep up. 

Along comes Ryder and what do you know?! We think we found Rusty a new friend. Rusty is not an alpha so he'll play and give his belly to give way for other alphas to know he's not threatening, just playful. 

Will look forward to see this friendship grow.

Welcome Rusty

He's the cutest mutt you'll ever meet. He's like husky ears and body, retriever color and tail, and lord knows. But he's definitely 50% cute and 50% puppy eyes that will melt your heart!

He doesn't think he's a lap dog per say, moreso just loves cuddling. He does this weird slow crawl, then slides himself inconspicuously into your lap, then rests his head perfectly into the nape of your neck. It's so slick! And he's SO SOFT! lol It's almost silky. 

He knows his sit and almost paw. He's so treat driven and will follow that treat. Working on down, but totally can see him learning roll over because of the way he follows that treat to give his belly.

He loves to give kisses and loves pets. The cat definitely finds him more tolerable as Rusty just watches and leave him be. He's darling around my daughter who currently has a broken leg. Gentle when he needs to be. 

So far so good. We'll see what the next week brings.
